Hoy quiero contarte algo personal y pedirte un favor.
Te cuento que, aunque yo empecé a dar clases de inglés en mi país a los 17 años, yo no siempre quise ser profesor.
Por mucho tiempo mi sueño ha sido escribir libros de desarrollo personal, y ayudar a las personas a desarrollar su máximo potencial y vivir una vida más plena.
De hecho, por muchos años me dediqué a ello gratuitamente. Tenía un blog y un podcast de desarrollo personal en el que hablaba de mis viajes y de las experiencias que habían cambiado mi forma de ver el mundo.
Y mientras estuve viajando por Alemania y Japón gracias a mis becas de estudio, fue una experiencia increíble. Pero todo cambió cuando al volver de Japón, la universidad suspendió mi programa de becas y tuve que hacer todo tipo de trabajos para sobrevivir.
Estaba estudiando dos másters al mismo tiempo, me encontraba solo en Alemania y tenía que financiar mi vida y ayudar a mi familia en Venezuela de algún modo.
Así que pasé por todos los trabajos posibles, desde vender hamburguesas en McDonalds, limpiar pisos en el hospital, de mesero y hasta haciendo pizzas en un restaurante.
Fue por casualidad, que en un momento muy dificil de mi vida, en el que no solo estaba muy mal económicamente sino que tenía ya tres años detestando cada día por estar atrapado en un trabajo que odiaba (en la cocina de un restaurante), que el español me salvó la vida.
Acababa de terminar mi máster en enseñanza del español y, sin pensarlo mucho, fui directamente al departamento de español del centro de idiomas de la uni, toque la puerta, me presenté y pregunté si de casualidad necesitaban profesores de español.
Y no, esto no es un cuento de hadas. Por supuesto que en ese momento me dijeron que no. Pero unas semanas más tarde una profesora tuvo que volver de emergencia a su país y ellos necesitaban urgentemente a un profesor nuevo.
¡El resto es historia! Han pasado 3 años desde ese día y aún sigo dando clases en la universidad. Y lo mejor es que descubrí que ser profesor de español no es tan diferente de mi sueño inicial.
Para mí, viajar siempre fue el motor de mi vida. Es lo que me inspira, lo que me hace crecer, es dónde siento que mi vida se expande y donde aprendo a ver el mundo desde otras perspectivas.
Y yo sé por experiencia, que hablar el idioma del país por el que viajas hace que la experiencia cambie completamente.
Por eso, mi misión es ayudar a mis estudiantes a cumplir ese sueño de viajar, de conocer personas diferentes y aprender todo lo posible de nuestra cultura latina ¡Qué no es perfecta! Pero que está llena de alegría, de emociones, de aventura, de amigos y familia, de estar juntos aunque el mundo está en crisis y de celebrar la vida a donde sea que vamos.
Y es por eso que quiero que me ayudes a cumplir mi misión, dejándome conocerte un poco más.

How’s it going, my friend?
Today, I want to tell you something personal and ask you for a favor.
Although I started teaching English in my country when I was 17 years old, I didn’t always want to be a teacher.
For a long time, my dream has been to write books on personal development and to help people develop their full potential and live a more fulfilling life.
In fact, for many years I did it for free. I had a blog and a personal development podcast where I talked about my travels and the experiences that had changed the way I saw the world.
And while I was traveling in Germany and Japan thanks to my scholarships, it was an amazing experience. But everything changed when I came back from Japan, the university suspended my scholarship program and I had to do all kinds of jobs to survive.
I was studying for two masters at the same time, I was alone in Germany and I had to finance my life and help my family in Venezuela somehow.
So I went through all possible jobs, from selling hamburgers at McDonald’s, cleaning floors at the hospital, working as a waiter, and even making pizzas in a restaurant.
It was by chance, at a very difficult time in my life, when I was not only very bad financially but I had already three years of hating every day for being stuck in a job I hated (in the kitchen of a restaurant), that Spanish saved my life.
I had just finished my master’s degree in Spanish teaching and, without thinking much about it, I went straight to the Spanish department of the language center of the uni, knocked on the door, introduced myself, and asked if by any chance they needed Spanish teachers.
And no, this is not a fairy tale. Of course, I was told no at the time. But a few weeks later a teacher had to return to her country on an emergency basis and they urgently needed a new teacher.
The rest is history! It has been 3 years since that day and I am still teaching at the university. And the best thing is that I discovered that being a Spanish teacher is not so different from my initial dream.
For me, traveling has always been the engine of my life. It is what inspires me, what makes me grow, it is where I feel that my life expands and where I learn to see the world from other perspectives.
And I know from experience that speaking the language of the country you are traveling through changes the experience completely.
Therefore, my mission is to help my students fulfill their dream of traveling, meeting different people, and learning as much as possible about our Latin culture, which is not perfect! but it is full of joy, emotions, adventure, friends, and family, being together even though the world is in crisis and celebrating life wherever we go.
And that’s why I want you to help me fulfill my mission by letting me get to know you a little better.
